Is StepCheckAI free?
Yes. The free plan gives you 5 solves and 3 work checks every day, plus unlimited hints. Enough for a typical homework night. No ads.
What subjects does it support?
Math, physics, chemistry, and biology are best. It also handles word problems, reading comprehension, and basic vocabulary. Targeted at grades 3 through 12 and intro college courses.
Is this just a way to cheat?
It can be used that way. We built two features specifically to push back against it: Check mode reads your existing work and tells you which step is wrong without giving the answer, and Hint depth points you to the next move without finishing the problem. If you only ever want answers, plenty of other apps will give them to you.
Does it work on Chromebook or laptop?
No native version yet. Most students keep StepCheckAI on their phone and paste questions over from the laptop screen. A web version is on the roadmap.
What happens to my photos?
When you are signed in, photos are stored in our database so your history syncs across devices. Delete any item from history, or wipe everything by deleting your account in Settings. Without an account, history stays on the device only and never reaches our servers.
Is my child's data safe?
No third-party ad SDKs. We do not sell data. We do not train AI models on student work. Full details, including subprocessors and retention windows, are in our Privacy Policy.
Can I use it offline?
Solving needs the internet. Saved history is viewable offline.
How do I cancel?
Cancel from the App Store or Google Play account settings, like any other subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
I got a wrong answer. What now?
AI makes mistakes, especially on word problems and edge cases. Try Hint depth or run Check mode on the response. If it is clearly wrong, send the screenshot to support@stepcheck.app. Reports are how we improve the prompts.
Is this a tutor?
No. A tutor watches how you think and adjusts. StepCheckAI gives fast, structured help on a single problem. Useful when you are stuck at 10pm. Not a replacement for a teacher.
How does Check mode work?
Snap your handwritten or typed work. The app reads each line, recomputes the math, and stops at the first step that does not follow. It tells you what went wrong on that line and shows the corrected version. The rest is yours to redo.
Plus vs Pro?
Plus removes the daily caps, unlocks detailed step explanations, and uses a faster model. Pro adds multi-question (one photo or paste with several problems, all solved together), PDF upload, and the strongest AI model for harder material.
