These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the StepCheckAI mobile apps and the stepcheck.app website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
StepCheckAI is a homework helper. You can submit a question (by photo or text) and the Service returns a step-by-step solution, a check of your work, or a hint. Solutions are generated by AI and may be wrong. You are responsible for reviewing answers before using them.
2. Your account
You can use limited features without an account. To use Solve and Check across devices and to keep history, you'll need to create an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your password secure. You're responsible for activity on your account.
Children under 13 (or the age set by local law) must have a parent or guardian create the account on their behalf. See our Privacy Policy.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit content that is illegal, infringing, harassing, or sexually explicit.
- Submit other people's personal information without their consent.
- Use the Service to cheat in violation of your school or institution's rules. Whether something counts as cheating is up to your school, not us. If you submit a Solve answer as your own work, that is on you.
- Try to break the Service, scrape it at scale, or reverse-engineer it.
- Resell access to the Service or use it to build a competing product.
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
4. Intellectual property
The Service, including all software, design, and content we create, is owned by StepCheckAI and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose.
Your content stays yours. You keep ownership of the homework photos and text you submit. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the Service: to store your content, to send it to our AI provider to generate a response, and to show it back to you in your history.
5. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
Plus and Pro are paid subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Pricing, the trial period (if any), and renewal cadence are shown in the app at the time of purchase.
- Subscriptions auto-renew until canceled.
- You cancel from your App Store or Google Play account settings, not from us.
- Refunds are governed by Apple's and Google's policies, not ours. We can't process refunds directly.
- If you cancel, you keep paid features until the end of the current billing period.
6. AI output and accuracy
The Service uses third-party AI models (currently Google Gemini) to generate responses. AI-generated content can be wrong, incomplete, or misleading, even when it sounds confident. Always verify answers before turning in homework or making decisions based on them. The Service is not a substitute for a teacher, tutor, or professional advice.
7. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from inside the app. We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. After termination, the rights you granted us above end, except where retention is required by law (for example, financial records).
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StepCheckAI and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits. In those places, the limits apply only to the extent permitted by law.
10. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify StepCheckAI against claims arising from (a) your misuse of the Service, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of someone else's rights. We reserve the right to handle our own defense, at your expense.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts of competent jurisdiction in the United States, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the change means you accept the new Terms.
